April 22 September eh...Haven't been on here because I went back to LiveJournal and have also been on MySpace. Not being able to upload pictures got on my nerves and three blogs is too many. September 25 Goodness me, I haven't been on here for ages!Hmm, well, I haven't. I did defect to Live Journal, but I don't really like it.
Was enjoying the summer too much to blog about it, but now I'm back at work and need the outlet. Actually, it's not that bad now I've readjusted. I'd still rather be at home though.
Summer plans: V festival (achieved, A&V freaked John out somewhat)
Moseley bog (Nope)
Dudley Zoo (Nope)
Find a yoga class (well, not in the summer, but there is one starting at the library on Saturday)
Decorate a room of the house (painted the kitchen ceiling and resurfaced the living room ceiling)
Write something (did some more short stories)
Unsurprisingly I've bought some more clothes and shoes. Surprisingly, I haven't been to any mod dos since, June probably. That's too long. There's an alldayer on Saturday, but I've been out loads recently so I'm not planning to go. I'm saving myself for the allnighter at the end of October. I've also got my first DJ slot for months then. It's Robert's birthday weekend too, he's mentioned something about taking A&V to his parents (it's half-term, but of course I've got jury service). A good opportunity to wear my white mini dress anyway (no I still haven't worn it). Not sure if I like the white handbag I bought though.
Bought a bicycle this summer, so I'm a few inches closer to riding a scooter. I'm warming up to taking it on the road (a very quiet road).
House sale still hasn't gone through, although it's supposed to be imminent. I hope so, because then I'll be eligible for an enormous grant to get lots of exterior work done.
Anna's started Brownies and likes it. Vespa doesn't like being without Anna when she's at Rainbows. Oh well.
I wonder if I can upload photos now. June 21 Star TrekAs Roswell has superseded Monkey as six o'clock viewing (they're showing series three now, there's a different Pigsy and there's no Gandhara at the end!), we were in need of some family viewing. Thank goodness they are showing the original Star Trek on the Sci-Fi channel. Unfortunately, I was so tired after yesterday's episode that I put the girls to bed and then fell asleep myself. I can't wait till the weekend so I can sleep.
June 18 Celebrating SanctuaryWent to Celebrating Sanctuary with A&V yesterday as it is national refugee week. Anna was on the leaflet this year! It was really good, the only drawback being nowhere shady to sit. They had lots of info on different campaigns and bands and kids' activities. We bumped into A&V's friend and her dad who turned out to be compering for the bands.
Also went to a singles' night at Birmingham Art Gallery with John on Friday. We sort of lost track of time and didn't end up talking to anyone. Went to Ramshackle afterwards which was rather boring. If it wasn't for mod nights I'd give up on going out dancing altogether. Everywhere's mediocre and full of teenagers.
Oh no I'm moaning again. On a more positive note, I got the complete Mr Men set (minus Mr Small) and The Dark Crystal on video from my school's Summer Fayre, so we'll probably watch that later. June 06 Will SelfRobert turned up. Nothing dramatic. Just said he was ill and asleep. We went to his mum and dad's farm last week (half term) where instead of relaxing, Robert's dad and sister gave him a hard time and stressed him out. Just what you want in your week off.
Went to see Will Self at Waterstones last night with Robert. He read from his new book (The Book of Dave) which I thought sounded good and Robert thought sounded awful. I've never read any Will Self but I might now, so it worked.
Also went to see X-Men III on Saturday. It was good but rather miserable. I hope they do another one. I thought there would be more of Angel in it, but he only had a couple of scenes looking brooding. He was in Six Feet Under and in one of those High School modern Shakespeare films.
I'm currently thoroughly enjoying watching old episodes of Roswell on the sci-fi channel. I managed to catch it just where I stopped watching about four years ago. It's good for spotting actors from other series. The Claire from Lost was in it, and the love interest from Miss Match (rubbish but addictive Alicia Silverstone sitcom) was in it. Don't I watch a lot of rubbish telly? May 24 HmmmRobert has gone awol. He didn't pick the girls up yesterday or today, and hasn't been in touch. Oh well. If he was less unreliable I'd be more worried.
I ended up on Kerrang radio this morning. I texted in to disagree with Ugly Phil's stance that all drummers are ugly and ended up on air giving Fab Moretti as an example of a gorgeous drummer. That was fun.
Went on a good course at another school this morning. Write Dance. It's about teaching children sequences of movement alongside stories, activities and music to give them the physical skill for writing. It sounds really good. You start off by telling the children 'The Story of a Piece of Paper' which sounds ludicrous.
A&V have got their class photos at school tomorrow. Vespa is not impressed as she is still scabby from chicken pox. One theory about where the term 'chicken pox' comes from is that children used to be referred to as 'chicken'. Which would make it 'child pox'. That rolls off the tongue.
May 23 Anna's notspotty. If she's not spotty by this time next week then she's in the clear.
Had a great time at Cathryn's Eurovision party on Saturday, and a great night dancing afterwards. Only had two glasses of wine but I had an evil hangover on Sunday.
The fair was in town. I love the fair. It's cheap, it's across the road and it has fresh doughnuts. But it rained and rained and we didn't go.
We Are Scientists has sold out and I got tickets, so I'm quite pleased. It's not till November though. Quite keen on The Young Knives on the third but I haven't bought tickets. I'll go if they don't sell out.
Going to Resurrection for John's birthday on Friday. Getting the girls to qymnastics on Saturday should be interesting. May 12 Vespa's spottyShe's got chicken pox, so I expect Anna will get it soon. The joy of being off school is tempered by how good the head is at making you feel guilty for not being there. It's good to have time to sort stuff out though. The house sale should go through in the next week.
I have been overpaid in tax credits for a particularly stupid reason - they ignored my estimated earnings and went on the previous year when I only worked for three months! Don't know what that'll do to my budget. I'm going to get about a third of the tax credits I got last year.
Hooray, the sun is shining for the third day in a row. It's a shame Vespa's contagious, but then if she wasn't, we'd both be at school. May 06 KnackeredDon't know why I'm so tired today. A&V were at a sleepover last night so I got to lie in (till 8!) and I was quite lively this morning. Took them to gymnastics on the train, then got a dreadful headache, got home and crashed and burned.
There was a CD fair in Stourbridge today (where gymnastics is). I went and looked and didn't spend any money, yay!
Got tickets for We Are Scientists but that's not till November. They were sold out the last two times I wanted tickets.
Dreamt I was going out with Paul Smith from Maximo Park last night. May 05 More shoesWell, had yesterday off because my school was a polling station, and spent the morning shopping. Everything that I had my eye on had come down in price, which was good. The red shoes that I was talking about had not only been reduced from £20 to £12, the shop was having a 20% off everything day, so it was like two pairs for the price of one (of course I got the red and the blue). Then the very sixties white mini dress that I saw in Primark but not in my size, was reduced from £10 to £5, and they actually had my size. I'm still disappointed that their £2 t-shirt dresses are too narrow in the shoulders for me to wear, but at least I got things that I wanted at half the price. Could still do with a white handbag though. Still can't add photos. My ant jewellery has been dispatched. I hope it's nice. Taking both nursery classes to the Sea Life Centre on Thursday (at the same time). I hope I survive.
May 03 AntsFinally found an ant belly button ring but unfortunately there isn't a picture of it, just the pendant. I ordered it anyway. April 23 A busy weekCan't remember what I did on Tuesday. Oh well.
Wednesday was the dentist (not very interesting), and I finally put my wardrobe together! It looks good too. It wouldn't survive a move though. Thursday was the gas inspection (my chimney flue is unusable apparently and I'm not allowed to use my gas fire in case I kill my neighbour). My skip came on Thursday too, so my front garden looks like a front garden again. Went to see Hostel with Cathryn on Thursday night (it was horrible but clever). I finally sent off my job application and went to check out where the school is (it's easy to get to).
DJ'd at the first night of Spaghetti Junction last night which was good. Went to Poppy Red afterwards with Paul, his girlfriend Emma, another DJ Leon and another bloke whose name I don't know. Had a really good night. They invited over to the day they're doing at Poppy Red next Sunday with bands and music so I'll probably go. If anybody else fancies coming you're welcome.
We've got a teacher training day to soften the blow of going back to work tomorrow. Then it's a three day week the week after (bank holiday and polling day). I like summer term. April 18 Adam Green is a genius, discuss.Just got back from seeing Adam Green upstairs at the Academy. It was bloody brilliant. I'll have to add the two albums I don't have to my wishlist. As well as being an altogether ace gig, I could also see nearly all of it (no mean feat when you're 5'4" and standing at the back). Thank you Adam Green for moving about the stage so much. I did get the impression that he was under the influence of something, but he still managed a very accomplished set and I was very impressed.
Saw one of the support acts, Jeffrey Lewis Band, who did an amazing song "Brief History Of Communist Russia Part: III". I'll have to look out for them.
If anyone is ever considering going to see either of them I would highly recommend them.
Also had a fantastic weekend down south. I even found some ant earrings (although I couldn't find any ant body jewellery). April 09 No school tomorrowWent to indie night at the Nightingale on Friday for Cathryn's birthday and had lots of fun dancing whilst only being mildly tipsy. They played All My Life, I Predict a Riot and Plug in Baby so I was happy. Went to see the Subways first but that was a bit dull. Got to bed at three, got up at eight and functioned amazingly well until about quarter to five when I started to flag. Managed to watch Strictly Dance Fever (Saturday nights will be complete again when Doctor Who is back too) on the sofa under a quilt, put the girls to bed, and then fell asleep watching Mark Thomas getting schoolchildren to trade weapons internationally. Woke up in time to watch Green Wing in bed.
To simplify the two Roberts thing, I will refer to the father of my children as Robert and the other one as Rob. I didn't go to Rob's yoga class on Wednesday as Robert was late back to have the children and I'm fed up of turning up late.
Robert has broken his ankle (he says he was running and tripped over the kerb). He did it on Thursday evening and didn't go to the hospital until Saturday morning, even though I kept phoning him to make sure he went all Friday. They wanted him to stay in hospital for the weekend (I think he should have), but he wanted to go home. He's got to go back on Monday to see if they need to operate.
Plans for this holiday:
Tomorrow I've got to make the house presentable for A&V's sleepover. Tuesday is the gas inspection and the survey of the house, Wednesday depends on whether Robert is able to look after the kids. Friday I should be heading down south but childcare is a bit up in the air (might have to take A&V to Robert's parents). If I do go then I'd be back on Sunday. Got tickets for Adam Green on Monday 17th which I'm really looking forward to. Check up at the dentist on the Tuesday. Hopefully DJing on the Saturday.
I've also got to plant my parsnip and poppy seedlings and lavender cuttings at some point. I don't know how well the parsnips will do in my garden as the soil isn't very deep. I've borrowed Robert's allotment key to plant some there as well. I might risk putting my Pheonix palm back in the garden as surely we're not going to have enough frost to kill it now?
One more try at adding a photo. Nope still not working. April 06 Oh, I forgot about thatForgot all about the 60s French pop photos I went to see on Saturday. Lovely pics. If I win the lottery, I'm buying the one of the girl in the yellow dress (prints start at about £1500).
I'm trying out new mod hairstyles at the moment. Dreadlocks and modettes don't really go together so I have to be creative. I'm building up to cutting some layers in the front, but I still want to be able to tie it up for work (small children with head lice and all that). April 05 No double chocolate cookies! They didn't have any double chocolate cookies at Asda on Sunday, I had to resort to oatmeal and raisin. They do have the advantage of cinnamon, but they're just not the same.
Yay, last time I googled toofli this space came up first.
Gave up the driving lessons. Think I'll concentrate on improving my cycling so I can get on a scooter.
Easter holidays are approaching, and I'm looking forward to not being at school, but I'm a bit fed up. I feel like I'm stuck in a rut. I've got some good stuff planned for the next couple of weeks but my mood won't lift.
It doesn't help that my drains are blocked for the second time in a month and my living room smells like a sewer. Hope they're still blocked when the surveyor comes to value the house.
I wonder if I can add photos yet. Nope. March 27 Belated Mother's DayGot some Mother's Day presents today (see pics), didn't think I was getting anything.
Went out to Edwards on Saturday. Ended up dancing to Since You've Been Gone (Rainbow, not Kelly Clarkson).
Saw a most beautiful pair of shoes, but I restrained myself and did not buy them. It nearly killed me.
Oh no! My photos won't upload. March 22 Oh bum!Spaghetti Junction on Saturday has been cancelled. They double booked. I was looking forward to that. Oh well. We'll still go out anyway. The next one is the 22nd of April.
Nothing else very interesting has happened. Still debating whether to give up driving lessons. Having a car is expensive and I don't really want one in the first place.
Sawed up the boards and finished my bed drawers on Friday. I think I'll need a skip as my front garden is now full of pieces of wood and an old mattress. Might as well wait until I do the wardrobe though.
Had quite a good birthday on Sunday. Rebecca and her daughter Charlotte came round and we all went to the park to feed the ducks and watch the kids run about. We told them it was too muddy to roll down the hill so Vespa decided her (plastic) baby Ella would roll down instead (aided by Vespa's feet).
Went to the quiz on Sunday night too which was fun. John got me a mystery CD. I've only listened to two tracks so far. It's quite heavy rock and it's not bad.
Anna is currently obsessed with a rather sickly cartoon called Winx Club about fairies at magic school. But then, she is only six. March 16 Looks like Thursday is blog dayTook Vespa to a mental birthday party on Sunday. Loads of kids tearing around, a death-trap bouncy castle, a (reasonable) clown, and then some blokes turned up with an enormous sound system and started playing dancehall music. I didn't know there was a dancehall version of Sesame Street.
Had Tuesday off school ill - nasty swollen glands and head cold. Now I have a lovely barking cough which is making my stomach muscles ache.
Went to Rob's first yoga class last night, which was good, but I don't think he believed me when I said that. He told me a couple of months ago that he didn't think I liked him and I don't think he believed me when I said that I did either. Oh well.
The camera crew are coming to school tomorrow so everyone being filmed will be stressing and running round like headless chickens. Doesn't apply to me though, ha ha ha.
Still haven't finished putting my under-bed-drawers together as the boards to go in the bottom don't fit (naturally). I have borrowed a hacksaw and intend to finish the job tomorrow.
Finally, a confession. Broke my new clothing ban on a pair of red boots. It had to be done as I have been searching for a pair of flat, comfortable, affordable boots for months. My paint splattered ones have got holes in and they are the only ones I can wear to school. That's my excuse anyway.
March 09 everyone can see it smiling, over the skySaw a double rainbow on the way to take A&V to rainbows.
Just been sat with the mortgage advisor for two hours. Pretty much sorted.
I am developing an obsession with Asda double chocolate cookies. Tesco ones are rubbish.
Finally took a picture of one of my new pairs of shoes. |
