February 22 A good mood at last!Took morning nursery on a trip to Wolverhampton art gallery today, which was quite good. Didn't lose anyone, didn't damage anything and saw several small children man-handle the penis of a leather sculpture (they were allowed to). Taking afternoon nursery next Tuesday.
Missed my driving lesson yesterday - my train was cancelled. Oh well.
My other friend Rob is starting his yoga class on Monday so I'm going to that. I don't actually know what style of yoga he does. I suppose I'll find out.
Went to see Aeon Flux on Friday and thoroughly enjoyed it. Not exactly a masterpiece, but good entertainment. Watched Oldboy at the weekend as well. That's brilliant. I'll have to read the comic now. The Mighty Boosh was good too (seats were rubbish though). It was a bit cheeky that it seemed to be lots of episodes cut up and stitched together, but it was very funny. Resurrection was also v. good. Bumped into these girls I did teacher training with that I seem to bump into every time I go out dancing. Finally swapped numbers with them. That was Friday and my ears were still ringing on Sunday night. That can't be a good sign. I did find out that they sell earplugs in the shop upstairs (at the end of the night). And they played Send Me A Postcard which is always fantastic.
Two and a bit weeks to jury service. I can't wait to have another two weeks of not getting up at quarter to six. I won't feel quite so smug if it runs into Easter.
It's Isobel Campbell tomorrow. Hope it's good. We're also having purple day in nursery tomorrow so I'm going to wear my Gogol Bordello t-shirt. No-one at school will have a clue who they are.
February 15 pre-post-holiday bluesStarted driving lessons and I have a very good instructor but I still don't want to drive. I don't know how to get past that, and I'm not going to really get my teeth into driving until I start enjoying it. Fourth lesson tomorrow. I lost count of the number of times I stalled the car today. I think the instructor's getting frustrated that I haven't been swotting up on my theory. Oh well.
I've given up on the idea of doing anything practical this half-term. At least I'm having some driving lessons. I'm always so tired all the time when I'm on holiday. Might try some coffee tomorrow. Feel like I'll be back at school in no time.
A&V have gone with their dad to their grandparents (on the farm). They only went this afternoon and I miss them already. They should be back Friday or Saturday.
Have decided to try going to the art gallery when I get restless, in an attempt to stop spending money on retail therapy. Although I do need to buy a theory test CD-rom. I've also told myself that I'm only allowed to spend DJ money on CDs for the next six months, and I'm not going to buy any dvds for the same length of time. I'm supposed to be getting a mortgage and I won't be able to keep spending so much. I also need to save up to visit my friends down south at Easter, to go on holiday this year (but that's more of a hope than a plan), and for V festival tickets. I wasn't sure whether to take the kids this year or wait a bit, but they're very sensible and love music so I'm going to go for it (if I can get tickets).
The Mighty Boosh approaches! I was really looking forward to it, but I've gone all pre-menstrual and grumpy. I'll work up some enthusiasm by Friday. I upset Rob by giving his ticket away to John (long story) but he upset me and there's a fair chance he'd upset me again if he came out with me so it's safer to take John (John never stresses me out).
We're going to Resurrection afterwards, and I'm also looking forward to that because I haven't been before.
Plans for tomorrow:
Oh yes, I forgot, I need to replace my hi-hat 'cos it sounds shit when I try to use the pedal. I wonder how much that will cost. February 04 SynchronicityWent CD shopping (couldn't stay away from Virgin's 5 for £30 offer) but I could only find 3 (for £20) that I really wanted. Got Oldboy (because it sounds good), Kasabian (because I only like them enough to pay £6.66) and Origin of Symmetry (Muse, because I love Plug In Baby). What a lot of brackets.
Then I felt that as I had budgeted to spend £30, I had another 10 that I could spend on CDs without feeling guilty. So I bought Ballad of the Broken Seas (Isobel Campbell and Mark Lanegan). Then I got on the train to go home, opened the NME, and there was an ad for the tour. I've bought tickets to go with John, but now I've just found out that it's only Isobel Campbell on the tour (with support from Eugene Kelly? no I haven't heard of him). I'm a bit disappointed now.
The CD's good anyway. February 02 What has happened to my street?I don't know what's going on, but I was just walking home when a man in a parked car asked me if I wanted a lift anywhere!? And on Sunday, some bloke rang my doorbell and then looked all embarassed when I opened the door, saying that he was looking for a massage parlour!? I'm pretty sure that there aren't any in the immediate vicinity.
I'm so glad it's Friday tomorrow. I quite fancy going out on Saturday, but I don't know what's on, I haven't arranged anything and I haven't booked a babysitter. I need to get off my arse if I really do want to go somewhere.
